Murat Akova is the Professor of Medicine at Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He obtained his MD degree from Istanbul University in 1982, and completed his residency training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Hacettepe University School of Medicine. Dr. Akova obtained a DSc degree in Clinical Microbiology from London Hospital Medical College, London, UK in 1989. From 1992 to 1993 he worked as a postdoc at the Center for Adaptive Resistance and Microbiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, USA.
He has served in the executive committee of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID, president 2014-2016, currently ESCMID Member Counsellor-and chair of the ESCMID Ethics Advisory Committee) and ICHS (immediate past-president).
Dr. Akova is a member of Science Academy, Türkiye and Academia Europaea. Professor Akova’s scientific research interests and publications include infections in immunocompromised host, antimicrobial resistance, adult immunization, and good clinical practice in clinical trials.
