Erdem Tüzün is a neurologist, who has received his medical degree in Istanbul University. He has then worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Oxford, Texas and Pennsylvania Universities. He is currently a faculty of Neuroscience Department at Istanbul University. His scientific studies are mainly focused on biomarkers in neuroimmunological disorders and novel therapeutics in complement mediated disorders including myasthenia gravis. He has contributed to first-time description of NMDAR encephalitis, glycine-receptor antibody positive autoimmune associated epilepsy and adenylate kinase 5 (AK5) encephalitis. He has also identified several complement cascade inhibitors mostly through the use of experimental animal models.
