Dimitar Maslarov

Prof. Dimitar Maslarov graduated in Medicine from the Medical University of Sofia in 1987. Between 1990 and 1994, he worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Experimental Morphology and Anthropology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 1995, he obtained his specialty in Neurology. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and Health Management from the Faculty of Public Health at the Medical University of Sofia. In 1998, he was awarded the scientific degree “Doctor” (PhD), and in 2017 – the higher scientific degree “Doctor of Sciences” (DSc).

Since 2006, he has served as Head of the Clinic of Neurology at the First University Hospital “St. John the Baptist” in Sofia. His teaching activities include medical college and public health students at the Medical University of Sofia. In 2009, he was elected Associate Professor, and in 2014 – Professor of Neurology at the Medical University of Sofia.

Prof. Maslarov is the author and co-author of five monographs, three independent textbooks in neurology, two co-authored neurology textbooks, and one handbook on premedical emergency care. He has more than 500 scientific publications with an h-index of 16. He has participated as a lecturer and moderator in more than 200 congresses and conferences in Bulgaria and abroad.

He holds certified qualifications in Clinical Electroencephalography, Evoked Potentials, Clinical Neuropsychology, and Ultrasound Diagnostics. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Bulgarian Society of Neurology and Chairman of its Sofia branch. He is also Chairman of the Bulgarian Society for Neuroprotection and Neurorehabilitation, and a member of GCNN–London, the European Stroke Organisation, and the World Stroke Organization.

Prof. Maslarov is a member of the scientific panels “Neurocritical Care” and “Palliative Care” of the European Academy of Neurology. He serves on the editorial board of the journal “Bulgarian Neurology,” is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Health and Science,” and is a member of the international editorial boards of “Neural Regeneration Research” and the “American Journal of Neuroprotection and Neuroregeneration.”

He is a consultant to the National Health Insurance Fund, an expert at the National Center of Public Health and Analyses, and a member of the Permanent Expert Council in Neurology. He is also a member of the Presidium of the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies.

Prof. Maslarov is a recipient of the Honorary Badge of the City of Haskovo and an Honorary Citizen of Velingrad.
